Play Schemes in Newport

Play schemes operate during February, Easter, summer and October school holidays.

Holiday play schemes offer play and other activities for children between the ages of 5 -12 years.

Play schemes are open access meaning that parents do not have to drop off and collect their children.

Children do not have to stay and play for the full day but can drop in and out as they wish giving them skills in ownership, choice and responsibility.

Although all play workers receive training, some Play Schemes are registered by the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales which requires 50% of the workforce to have a relevant qualification to work with children.

Registering these sites allows children under the age of 8 years to attend for a full day. There are between 25 – 30 of these placements available at each site and registration is based upon a first come first served basis.

Outreach provision is offered on a shorter period time within open space within local communities. The purpose of this provision is to make use of the natural elements and encourage and prompt children’s awareness of the opportunities to play within their local environment.

All of the above are open to children of all abilities and needs up until 16 years of age.

Charter Housing Info

Address: Charter Housing Association, Exchange House, High Street, Newport, NP20 1AA

Tel: 01633 212375

Web: www.charterhousing.co.uk

Charter Housing is a Housing Association which provides social housing at low rents on a secure basis to those who are most in need or struggling with their housing costs.  A key function of social housing is to provide accommodation that is affordable to people on low incomes. Limits to rent increases set by law mean that rents are kept affordable.  Unlike in the private rented sector, where tenancies are offered by the landlord and letting agent to whomever they choose, social housing is distributed according to the local council’s allocation scheme. Charter is a not-for-profit organisation and use any profit they make to maintain existing homes and help finance new ones.
